Approximately fifty automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Automobiles, walls and mailboxes were marked, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a release.
Officers report they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish liquid.
The substance had been placed in the pattern of a banned symbol, they added.
Police then located numerous other smeared cars and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under laws prohibiting the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials report early analysis indicate the liquid was likely blood from a person.
"Currently there is no clue as to its source; authorities are currently not informed of any harm in connection with the event," they commented.
City officials said they were attempting "to resolve the mystery" and have appealed to the residents for details.
An important political figure said the attack made him speechless and required to be addressed rapidly.
"This event affects the center of Hanau and reopens the pain of the extremist violent incident in 2020," he wrote on a platform, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a shooter focusing on individuals of foreign heritage in February 2020.
