The Princess of Wales's Traditional Christmas Carol Concert Honours Charity Helpers

Catherine, Princess of Wales, is presiding over her customary Yuletide celebration at the historic Abbey, with guests including dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have helped their communities.

The sizable congregation will listen to a blend of festive songs, musical performances, and spoken word pieces from actors such as Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

A Theme of Kindness and Compassion

The central message of the concert, held in the atmospheric historic church on Friday, is kindness and showing love to others.

Among the guests will be a couple named the Cordiners, whose child passed away from a brain tumour, and who founded an organisation, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to help households where there is a youngster facing a life-limiting condition.

"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often quietly and unspoken, and without any expectation or recognition, make an profound impact to the circumstances of individuals," the Princess expressed in a message before the festive gathering.

A Steady Comeback

The royal has been undertaking her own gradual return to the public eye subsequent to her illness and medical care, recently giving her major oration since 2023, in which she discussed recognising the "quiet, often invisible work of caring".

Music and Opportunity

Guests arriving at the Abbey will be entertained by young musicians aided by the Future Talent charity, set up with the help of the late Duchess of Kent to broaden opportunities for musical tuition.

Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who performs on the trumpet and is from Pembrokeshire, has been assisted by the charity, with grants helping towards musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "awesome" to be taking part in the evening's event.

"Music can be very expensive," the musician remarked. She is now a student at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to hone their artistic talents.

A Family Affair

Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who is a euphonium player, will be present at the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many important people," she said.

Within the audience will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will include young Saphia Turner, nine, recipient of a young hero award, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to collect donations for local food charities.

Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts

The Abbey has been adorned with custom-created holiday decorations, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett contributing to their design.

Taking to the stage will be Katie Melua, the Westminster Abbey choristers and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "the icing on the cake for us."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be televised and shown on ITV1 on Christmas Eve.
